ABOUT EMA

A Young Cowgirl with a Big Mission

ONE CLASSROOM.ONE CHALLENGE.ONE GIRL WHO TOOK IT TO HEART.

At Vanguard College Preparatory School, Ema took a World War II and Vietnam history class that became much more than memorizing dates and battles.

Veterans came into the classroom and told their stories.

One had lied about his age so he could enlist in World War II.

As he spoke, Ema watched his face change. For a moment, it seemed as though he wasn’t sitting in a classroom anymore. He was remembering a life he had lived decades before she was even born.

Ema couldn’t stop thinking about it.

These weren’t just people in history books.

They were someone’s grandfather. Someone’s father. Someone’s neighbor.

They were ordinary people who had once been very young themselves — and had been asked to do extraordinary things.

Then came the assignment:THANK AS MANY VETERANS AS YOU CAN.

Ema started walking up to veterans when she saw them.

She shook their hands.

She listened.

She said thank you.

And one veteran gave her an answer she has never forgotten:

“I WOULD DO IT AGAIN.”

Those words stayed with her.

Because somewhere along the way, Ema realized the assignment wasn’t really about completing an assignment at all.

It was about noticing.Remembering.Being grateful. And being willing to say it out loud.
